Hospital Out of Beds Due to COVID
With the surge of COVID-19 cases across the country, especially in the South — and in Georgia, especially in the southeast portion of the state — hospitals throughout the region are being strained.
Jeff Davis Hospital in Hazlehurst is no exception.
According to Jeff Davis Hospital CEO Barry Bloom, as of Tuesday morning all 25 beds in the hospital were occupied — 14 with COVID cases and 11 for other medical reasons.
Four of the 14 COVID patients were listed as in critical condition, Bloom said.
Tuesday morning, there were two more patients being held in the hospital’s emergency room and Bloom did not know if the severity of those two COVID patients’ infections would warrant admission to the hospital.
If so, apparently, two patients will have to be transferred to other facilities, wherever open beds can be found.
The hospital is continuing COVID-19 vaccinations on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. COVID testing is offered Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Persons wishing to be vaccinated or tested should call 833-996-2590 to schedule an appointment.
