Jeff Davis County’s Marlo Mincey-Vinson has been inducted into the 2026 Class of the Georgia Southern Athletics Hall of Fame.
Mincey-Vinson, the daughter of Floyd and Georgia Mae Mincey of Hazlehurst, was honored at the Hall of Fame Awards Dinner Sept. 25 in Statesboro and at halftime of Georgia Southern’s Sept. 26 football game. She was selected for the honor not only as a track star for the Eagles, but also for her serving as the GSU track coach.
Other members of the 2026 Class of the GSU Athletics Hall of Fame were Matt Breida (football), Scott Henley (baseball), Frank Hook (administration), Roger Inman (administration), Sarah Purvis Bryant (softball) and Brent Russell (football).
Marlo Mincey-Vinson was a member of the second recruiting class in GSU track program history who helped lay the foundation for Georgia Southern track & field … A six-time Southern Conference champion, winning two 400m outdoor hurdle championships, two outdoor 4x400m relay championships, one indoor 4x400m relay championship and one indoor 400m title … Represented the Eagles in the NCAA Outdoor Regional from 2001-04 and held five combined school records, with three outdoor and two indoor marks at the time of her graduation … A 12-time All-SoCon honoree … Went on to be the head coach of the Eagle track program where her athletes earned Most Outstanding Track Performer at the SoCon outdoor championships and Freshman of the Year at the SoCon indoor championships … A double Eagle, she graduated with a degree in exercise science from Georgia Southern in 2005 and earned her Master’s degree in sport management from Georgia Southern in 2007.
At Jeff Davis High School, Marlo and her twin sister Margo were star performers not only on the track but also on the basketball court, playing for former Yellow Jacket girls head coach Hugh McBride.
In 2000, Marlo Mincey won her second straight state title in the 300 meter hurdles and set the Class AA State Record with a time of 43.09 seconds, more than a second faster than the previous record-holder.
Marlo and Margo teamed with Shannon Knox and Nicole Cray to win the 4 x 400 relay state championship in 2000.
Marlo and Margo were both named to the All Middle Georgia Track Team, Mincey-Vinson was a 2000 Jeff Davis High Honor Graduate, the Student Council Vice-President, voted the Friendliest in her graduating class, and the 1999 Jeff Davis High School Homecoming Queen.
