Board recognizes cross country teams

At Monday night’s meeting of the Jeff Davis County Board of Education, Middle School Principal Dr. Brent Coleman recognized the middle school boys and girls cross country teams for winning the conference championship this season.
The following students were recognized:
Girls Team: Valerie Porras, Dakota Mincey, Rayleigh Pierce, Zaylee Dukes, Jasmine Reynolds, Amy Miller, Winry Clark, Maria Aleman, Breyzi Trejo, Kamila Barragan, Jackie Lara, Brooklyn Andrews and Zoe Odum.
Boys Team: Cason Roberson, Nathan Rayo, Alejandro Gonzalez, Abel Cabrera, Derek Fitzwater, Yobani Cruz-Santos, Ivan Ortiz, Rhett Wilkerson, Malaki Quinilla, Anyel Lucas-Morales, Nolan Worth, Fausto Espino Flores, Joshua Edwards, Jacob Wilkerson, Aiden Puckett, Jai’Anthony Benton, Gabriel Turner and Austin Ellis.
School and Community
School Superintendent Dr. Chris Roppe announced that the average attendance for Jeff Davis County Schools was 95.39%.
Technology Director Chris Raulerson provided an update highlighting the department’s focus on cybersecurity, infrastructure and network improvements. Key efforts include enhanced email security, multifactor authentication, and upgrades to wireless and network equipment. The department is pursuing grant funding to support future technology needs while minimizing local costs.
The following items were all unanimously approved by the board: Blue Bird Bus Purchase, Medicaid Reimbursement Services MOU and Facilities Use Request – Hazlehurst Fire Department.
Chief Financial Officer Joshua Worth presented the August financial reports.
The board accepted the resignations of high school teacher Madison McArthur and primary school custodian Jacob Plunket.
The board approved recommendations to hire primary school custodians Alice Hughes and Kimberly Clark and part-time transportation administrative assistant Drew Hughes to a full-time position.
