Two Charged In Murder
Hazlehurst Police Chief Ken Williams reported this week that, last Wednesday at approximately 9:20 p.m., the Police Department responded to the intersection of Hazel and Girtman streets in reference to gun shots being fired. Officers found Kelsi Burns, 36, suffering from gun shot wounds. Burns was transported to Jeff Davis Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Douglas Regional Office was requested to assist in the investigation.
The investigation revealed that Burns had an altercation with Steven Johnson, 22, of Hazlehurst, that resulted in Johnson shooting Burns. Johnson was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault.
Dedra Robinson, 27, of Hazlehurst was charged with party to the crime of murder and party to the crime of aggravated assault. Both were booked into the Jeff Davis Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing.
