Construction Causes Traffic Congestion

The overpass construction on Larry Contos Blvd., aka The Bypass, is still in the early stages but its affecting traffic all over Hazlehurst. With the bypass closed to through traffic, vehicles have been rerouted to Cromartie and Tallahassee streets for north-south traffic. And Jefferson and Jarman street traffic has increased significantly also as motorists follow the detours to get through Hazlehurst. That increased traffic has quickly become a headache as Cromartie and Tallahassee in particular have become bottlenecks. And with the overpass construction expected to last more than a year, it will be months before motorists get relief. But it will be a worthy long wait as the overpass has been needed for decades.
