Three Arrested In 2014 Double Murder
The Hazlehurst Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have charged three men with felony murder in connection with the 2014 deaths of Javonnie Mondrae Chambers and his mother, Mary L. Chambers.
Gerald Jermaine Wright, 41, was served with his warrant at Baker Correctional Institution in Sanderson, Fla. Robert Benjamin Brown, 35, was served with his warrant at J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway, S.C. And Brandon Dante Hardaman, 31, was taken into custody by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Hardaman will be transported back to Jeff Davis County.
There will be additional charges for each of the accused.
On May 16, 2014, at approximately 8:36 p.m., the Hazlehurst Police Department and Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Department responded to multiple gunshots at a residence on Harrison Nook in Hazlehurst. Upon arrival, officers discovered Chambers and his mother had received gunshot wounds. The Hazlehurst Police Department requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Douglas office.
Javonnie Mondrae Chambers, 41, and his mother, Mary L. Chambers, 64, were transported from the scene by ambulance where Monroe Chambers was pronounced dead upon arrival at Jeff Davis Hospital. Mary Chambers died while en-route to the Memorial Hospital Trauma Center in Savannah. The GBI Crime Lab conducted autopsies on both victims.
Investigators suspect that Monroe Chambers was the primary target of the shooting and that Mary Chambers was not a target of the shooting. The residence was hit with multiple gunshots.
Also inside the residence at the time of the shooting were two children, ages 2 and 4. During the shooting, the children and another adult took cover in another part of the residence and were not injured.
Hazlehurst Police Chief Ken Williams commends Hazlehurst Police Department Investigator David Moore and GBI Special Agent Jason Nipper for their hard work and dedication in the investigation. The investigation is on-going; therefore, no other details will be released at this time.
