School board has 2 called meetings

The Jeff Davis County Board of Education held called meetings last Tuesday and Friday.
In Tuesday’s meeting, School Superintendent Dr. Chris Roppe provided information regarding a one time grant from the state that targets economically disadvantaged school districts.
Procedures, Operations, and Support
The board approved to use Satilla REMC donation funds to purchase additional Chromebooks.
The board approved moving selected playground equipment from the current primary school and pre-k to the new school.
The board approved the Governor’s one-time supplement for all school system employees.
Consent Agenda
The board accepted the resignation of middle school band director Elijah Alford and the retirement of primary school teacher Angie Sellers.
Jason Kennedy provided an update on literacy professional development, strategic plan initiatives, annual needs assessment, and resources for FY27.
Dr. Joey Floyd provided an update on Title programs and the uses of these funds throughout the school district for FY27.
Human Resources Director Dr. Natalie Hayes provided an update on the staffing needs for FY27 and financial matters related to HR.
Finance Director Joshua Worth provided an update on the FY26 budget and the anticipated changes for FY27.
The board approved the expenditure of a one-time grant from the state targeted for economically disadvantaged students.
The board will have a called meeting March 31 at noon.
Dr. Roppe invited board members to a luncheon provided by Parrish Construction on April 2 for the subcontractors for the new school project.
He also invited board members to the retirement banquet for employees April 28 at 6:30 p.m.
The Georgia School Boards Association Summer Conference that will be held June 8.
In Friday’s meeting, Dr. Roppe clarified that all JDCSS employees will receive a supplement, regardless of whether their role was included in the Governor’s proposal. The district will use the same criteria that has been applied in the past for ESSER supplements and previous one-time supplements from the Governor.
Dr. Roppe said the funds would be included in the March payroll checks.
The board also adopted a policy on Internet acceptable use which will sit for public comment until April 13.
