Lady Jackets win 3 of 4
Jeff Davis High’s softball team won 3 of 4 games over the last week, shutting out 3 opponents and being shut out against the other.
The Lady Jackets traveled to Quitman last Tuesday for a double header against Brooks County, winning 18-0 and 13-0. Thursday in Hazlehurst they fell 4-0 to region-leading Cook High School. Monday they hosted Wilcox County and rolled to a 12-0 win.
In the 1st game against Brooks, Briley Reagin threw a 3-inning perfect game, retiring all 9 batters she faced, 7 by strikeout. Only 2 pitches were hit into fair territory, one to the pitchers mound and the other to 2nd base.
Savanna Robinette had 2 singles, a double and an RBI and Mikelynn Jones doubled twice and drove in 3 runs.
Madison Joyce had a single, a double and 2 RBI, Abby Williams singled twice and drove in a run, Gabby Taylor had a double and 2 RBI, Ava Bohannon and Skyden Chaney both had a single and an RBI, Briley Reagan singled and Mattie Claire Worthington drove in a run.
In the 2nd game in Quitman, Reagin pitched again, allowing only one baserunner via a 3rd inning leadoff single. She struck out 5.
Joyce had the hot bat for the Lady Jackets, going 3-for-3 with a trio of singles and driving in a run. Reagin had a single, a double and an RBI, Taylor had 2 singles and 4 RBI, Robinette singled twice and drove in 2 runs, Anna Grace Alligood had 2 singles and an RBI, Abby Williams singled twice, Ava Bohannon led off the bottom of the 1st inning with a solo homer and Jones had a single and an RBI.
The Lady Jackets couldn’t get their offense untracked against Cook Thursday as they managed only 3 hits. JD’s best opportunity to score came in the 6th when Williams got a 1-out triple. But the next two batters struck out to end the threat.
Alligood and Chaney rounded out the hitting with singles.
Taylor started on the mound and pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 2 hits, walking 4 and fanning one. Alligood pitched the final 3 2/3 innings, giving up one run on 3 hits, walking 2 and striking out 7.
Reagin returned to the mound against Wilcox County Monday, throwing a 2-hit shutout over 4 innings. She walked one and struck out 3.
Reagin helped herself at the plate with a triple and 2 RBI. Taylor was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, Alligood singled twice, Bohannon had a single and 3 RBI, Chaney had a single and an RBI, and Robinette, Joyce and Worthington each singled.
