Ava Biohannon’s uniform shows the effects of a head-first slide

Jeff Davis High’s softball team had a busy week with four games, losing to Brantley County 10-4 and Bacon County 6-0, and then defeating Coffee County 5-2 and Pierce County 9-4.
Playing in Nahunta, the Lady Jackets fell behind by a 5-0 score before getting within a run with a 4-run 5th inning. But the Lady Herons added 5 more runs in the 5th and 6th to win 10-5.
In the 5th, Mikelynn Jones reached on an error and went to second on Skyden Chaney’s sacrifice bunt. With 2 outs, Anna Grace Alligood singled to right to score Jones. Ava Bohannon followed with a walk and Savanna Robinette hit a 3-run homer over the left field fence.
Robinette had a single, a homer and 3 RBI, Alligood singled and drove in a run, and Madison Joyce and Gabby Taylor both singled.
Briley Reagin started on the mound. She pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 3 hits, 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. Alligood pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits, walking 2 and striking out 1.
Thursday in Hazlehurst, former Lady Jacket Jaquelyn Villasenor got her second shutout of the Lady Jackets as she pitched a 4-hitter for the Bacon County Lady Red Raiders.
Bohannon had a pair of doubles to lead the JD offense. Alligood and Taylor both singled.
Alligood went the distance on the mound. She gave up 2 earned runs on 7 hits, walked one and struck out 3.
The Lady Jackets got back on track Saturday in Hazlehurst with a 5-2 win over Coffee High School.
Jeff Davis spotted Coffee to a 1-0 lead in the 3rd but got 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 3-1.
With one out in the bottom of the 3rd, Abby Williams walked, Alligood singled and Robinette walked to load the bases. Joyce followed with a 2-run double. Taylor then lined out to center and Robinette scored from 3rd after tagging up.
Jeff Davis got 2 more runs in the 6th. Reagin singled, went to 2nd on Bohannon’s sacrifice bunt and scored as Williams tripled to right field. Williams scored on Alligood’s ground out to short.
Joyce had a single, a double and 2 RBI, Williams had a single, a triple and an RBI, Reagin singled and doubled, Taylor had a single and an RBI, and Robinette singled.
Taylor was the winning pitcher. She went 5 2/3 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 6. Alligood pitched 1 1/3 innings, retiring all 4 batters she faced, one by strikeout.
In Monday’s game against Pierce, the Lady Jackets had a trio of 3-run innings to win 9-4.
Trailing 1-0 in the third, Bohannon singled and went to 2nd as Alligood was safe at first on an error. Robinette singled to score Bohannon and Joyce drove in two more runs as she was safe on an error.
In the 4th, Chaney walked, Reagin singled and Bohannon walked to load the bases. Chaney scored as Williams lined out to 3rd and the 3rd baseman threw the ball away. Alligood then singled in Bohannon and Reagin scored on the throw to make it 6-1.
Bohannon led off the 6th with a solo homer. Robinette walked, Joyce singled, Taylor walked and Jones ripped a 2-run single to right.
Bohannon had a single, a double and an RBI, Jones had 2 singles and 2 RBI, Alligood had a single and 2 RBI, Robinette had a single and an RBI, and Williams, Joyce, Taylor and Reagin each singled.
Taylor was the winning pitcher. She threw 4 innings, giving up one earned run on 5 hits, walking one and striking out one. Alligood pitched the final 3 innings, giving up an unearned run on 2 hits, walking none and striking out none.
