School Board Meets

The Jeff Davis County Board of Education met June 11.
School Superintendent Dr. Chris Roppe presented the May attendance report, saying the average attendance for was 90.05%. The average attendance for the 2025-2026 school year was 93.48%, an increase from last year.
Dr. Adam Kirby gave an update on the Safety Department including current safety measures, new requirement form the Department of Education, proactive measures, safety drills and future opportunities.
Dr. Kirby gave an update on the new primary school project stating that the project continues to be on schedule.
The board approved an out-of-state travel request for the high school tennis team, the proposed FY27 budget, supplements and pay scales for FY27, a technology grant proposal, student handbooks and policy updates.
Chief Financial Officer Joshua Worth presented the April financial reports which were approved as presented.
The board accepted the resignation of primary school paraprofessional Taylor Douglas, and approved recommendations to hire transportation clerk Drew Hughes, elementary school teacher Allie Adams, elementary school counselor Dustyn King, middle school nutrition employee Rosa Agundis, high school improvement specialist Elana Worth, high school ag teacher Brent McBride, high school special ed inclusion paraprofessional Karter Galbreath, and primary school custodians Randy Carter and Jacob Plunket.
The board unanimously approved a request of the Jeff Davis Public Library to use the Multipurpose Ag Center to host Magic and Animal Show performers for Summer Reading June 17, June 24 and July 1.
The board unanimously approved extending Dr. Roppe’s contract as superintendent.
