Lady Jackets win region championship

The Yellow Jacket tennis teams traveled to McKey Park in Valdosta last week for the Region championship ship finals, with the girls competing Wednesday and the boys Thursday.
The Lady Jackets entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed, undefeated in region play. They opened with a strong 3-0 sweep over Berrien, setting the tone early. In the championship match, the ladies continued their dominant run, defeating Bacon County 3-0 to claim the Region Championship title.
The Yellow Jacket boys entered as the No. 2 seed and faced No. 3 seed Thomasville in the semifinals. They delivered a decisive 3-0 victory to advance to the championship match against top-seeded Brantley County. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Jackets fell 0-3, earning the Region Runner-Up title for Region 1A, Division 1.
In the latest GHSA postseason rankings, the Lady Jackets hold the No. 1 spot, while the boys are ranked No. 4 behind Brantley County, Darlington, and Athens Academy.
Both teams hosted first-round state playoff matches at home Tuesday. The Lady Jackets faced Worth County, while the boys will took on Barrow County.
