We Will Survive — By Tommy Purser

Re: The Georgia Department of Transportation’s plans to drastically change traffic flow on Hwy. 341 thru Hazlehurst.
I join those in opposition to the plan.
We don’t need it.
It’s not necessary.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Leave us the hell alone.
We’re doing fine, thank you, without experts from outside Jeff Davis County coming here and telling us what’s good for us.
I repeat, leave us the hell alone.
With that said, contrary to popular opinion, the sky is not falling.
We’ll survive.
The “Chicken Littles” here are my friends, my neighbors, people I have long called my friends, people I have long loved.
Yes, I think we’ll survive the changes GDOT is suggesting.
But, no, I’d just as soon do without the changes.
We’re good here.
We’re GOOD here.
Just let us be.
In defense of GDOT officials, they were given bad information. And they were innocently responding to that bad information with good faith efforts to address the needs of Hazlehurst and Jeff Davis County as they understood them. But they were misinformed.
Please, give the folks from GDOT a break. They responded to the misinformation they received in the best way they could have. They made efforts to address the needs with which they were confronted. They are not the bad guys. Work with them. And in return, they will work with us.
I really think I’m right about this.
