Ain’t Life Grand? — By Tommy Purser

The good wife and I are headed to Cordele the next two weekends to perform some grandparent duties — quite pleasant duties, I must add.
This weekend my oldest grandson — who is the namesake of his father, who is my namesake — and his bride-to-be will be honored with a housewarming get-together not far from the shores of Lake Blackshear.
His father, my namesake, and his better half have recently taken up residence on the shores of Lake Blackshear along with my next-to-youngest grandchild who has graduated from high school but thus far has not broken the chains attached since birth to my namesake and his better half — whom I think of more as a daughter than a daughter-in-law.
I know, this is all very confusing and I, too, am a bit confused. So let me be more precise.
The housewarming is for Thomas Howard Purser III, better known as Trey, and his fiance Carly. Their new home is only a few blocks from Lake Blackshear.
Trey is the son of Thomas Howard Purser Jr. who lives not far from Trey’s new home but Junior’s home is on the shores of Lake Blackshear.
Tommy Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, who is the person I claimed I felt was more of a daughter than a daughter in law, live on Lake Blackshear with their youngest son, Holland, the aforementioned next-to-youngest grandchild who is out of high school but still living at home.
That’s not a criticism. Be patient. He will be on his own in due time. Such things should not be rushed.
Now that I’ve, hopefully, cleared that up, on to the next weekend.
Next weekend, the good wife and I will return to Cordele. Actually, I think we will be going to Dooly County which is right next door to Cordele. That’s where my only granddaughter — who happens to be my favorite granddaughter — and her husband of just a few months will stage a gender-reveal occasion.
That’s right, the good wife and I are on the verge of becoming great-grandparents for the second time.
Braydon, my 3rd to youngest grandchild, who happens to be my middle grandchild since the good wife and I have five grandchildren …. are you following all this? …. has already blessed us, along with his wonderful betrothed Dafne, with our 1st great-grandchild Marielena …. or is it Marialena? Great-grandfathers aren’t all that clear on such details.
Anyway, in a couple of weeks I will know if I will soon have 2 great-granddaughters or a great-grandaughter and a great-grandson.
When I find out, I’ll be sure to let you guys know.
Now I must go. I have more important things to do. Such as, stress upon my two-times namesake that I impatiently wait for yet another gender-reveal. Actually, I now have three gender reveal party candidates with two more in the wings.
Ain’t life grand …. er, ain’t life great-grand?
