Ring Kissing

The latest edition of Time magazine included a long article about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and it, in part, zeroed in on Zelenskyy’s reaction to the treatment he received on his latest visit to the White House.
The Ukrainian President was bullied by President Trump and his subservient Vice President J.D. Vance,.
Zelenskyy is more than forgiving for the crassness he experienced in our nation’s White House. Of course, he had to be. He realizes Ukraine’s embattled citizens need aid from all the Western neighbors, primarily from the U..S., to help them withstand Russia’s invasion of its neighbor to the west. And he also realizes a certain amount of ring-kissing is a prerequisite for receiving a favorable nod from The Donald.
Rare is the person who, upon receiving a de facto spit in the face, can brush off such treatment and really forgive and forget.
Zelenskyy probably will never forgive nor forget the bashing he received as a visitor to our country. But for the sake of his fellow countrymen he must do everything in his power to make Donald Trump think he has forgotten and forgiven the incident. If that requires a ring kiss, so be it. If it requires him to bow and scrape at the feet of King Donald, so be it.
Zelensky is a smart man. He knows that a bad reaction from him, means death and misery to his country’s citizens.
Just as all our elected officials in Washington know that the President’s ego must be stroked lest the voters back home suffer the consequences.
For those who are upset at elected officials who bow and grovel to The Donald — chill out. That’s the government we now have and will have for the next four years.
Deal with it.
