Mr. Buford Vernon West, 98

Mr. Buford Vernon West, 98, of Hazlehurst, died Aug. 17 at his residence.
Mr. West was born June 18, 1922, in Miller County to the late John Walter West and the late Martha Hodges West. He was a veteran of the United States Army-Air Corps, serving during WWII. After serving his country, he enrolled at ABAC, earning his Agriculture Degree and then on to the University of Georgia, earning his teaching degree. He taught school in Butler for a few years before moving to Jeff Davis County where he was employed with the U.S. Government ASCS office as county agent for 30 plus years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst and was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa West Deen.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Joyce Roberts West of Hazlehurst; daughter, Robin Aycock of Hazlehurst; son-in-law, Clayton Deen of Hazlehurst; brother, Don West (Beth) of Albany; grandchildren, Amber Aycock and Alex Aycock; great-grandchildren, Andrew Aycock and Axel Aycock; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Aug. 19 at Palms Memorial Gardens with military honors with the Rev. Brad Waters and the Rev. J. Barry Owens officiating.
Music was rendered by Jimmie Ryles, Bill Summerlin, John Hunt, Mike Cothern and Harmon Dawson.
