Mr. Travis Richard (Ricky) Steverson, 55

Mr. Travis Richard (Ricky) Steverson, 55, of Hazlehurst, died April 8 at Jeff Davis Hospital.
Mr. Steverson was born July 31, 1963, in Coffee County. He was employed with McRae Correctional Core Civic Facility in the maintenance department, a member of the Hazlehurst-Jeff Davis County Fire Rescue, and a member of Oakland Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his father, Travis Steverson, sisters, Sherry Lynn and Tracey Steverson.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Medders Steverson of Hazlehurst; daughter, Candace Steverson of Hazlehurst; son, Tyler Steverson of Hazlehurst; mother, Sue Lytle Newman (Gary) of Hazlehurst; sister, Angel Steverson of Douglas; grandchildren, Allie Rowland and Kaydence Taylor of Hazlehurst; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held April 11 in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with the Rev. Royce Hulett and the Rev. Joey Andrews officiating. As Mr. Steverson left the funeral home he traveled by fire truck, crossing under the Fireman’s Arch with the American Flag waving high, on the way to Hazlehurst City Cemetery.
The Fire Department Honor Guard led by Calvin Hitchcock and the Hazlehurst-Jeff Davis County Fire Rescue performed full honors at the cemetery, with Chief Charles Wasdin performing the ringing of the bell, reading of the fireman’s prayer, sounding of the three sirens, presenting Mr. Steverson’s last 911 call, presentation of the roses and flag to his family and the ceremony was concluded with the Bagpipe playing Amazing Grace.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Hazlehurst-Jeff Davis County Fire Rescue, friends in attendance, and McRae Correctional Core Civic Facility.
Active pallbearers were members of the Hazlehurst-Jeff Davis County Fire Rescue in full uniform.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
