Mrs. Regina Rainey Kornegay, 70

Services for Mrs. Regina Rainey Kornegay, 70, who died April 2 after a brief illness, were held April 6 at Bennett Tabernacle Holiness Church.
The Rev. Dennis Roberts Jr., Rev. Roscoe Burke, Rev. Willie Futch, Rev. Henry Josey officiated with burial in Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Kornegay, born in Hazlehurst, was the daughter of the late Jonathan and Jalanie Rainey. She attended Hazlehurst Elementary and High School. She was married to Calvin “Mickey” C. Kornegay Jr. for 49 years and helped him serve a honorable 26 year military career in the US Air Force. She was a faithful member of St. James A.M.E. Church all her life where she served as a Steward, Sunday School Teacher, and Lead Usher. She was a caregiver to both of her parents until their death, all while raising her own family. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Evrod Scott and Ernest Rainey; sisters, Luna Frazier, Amy Lee Monroe, and Viola McMillian.
Survivors include her husband, Calvin Kornegay Jr. of Hazlehurst; children, Patrick A. Rainey Sr. of Atlanta, Lalita N. Kornegay Greene (Victor) of Rancho Cucomonga, CA, Irzorial “Eric” F. Kornegay (Tiangela) of Atlanta, and Calvin “Papa” C. Kornegay III (Joyce) of Killeen TX; grandchildren, Patrick A. Rainey Jr., Dominique T. Kornegay, Calvin C. Kornegay IV, Jace Z. Kornegay, and Bella S. Kornegay; brothers, William Rainey (Mable) of Jacksonville, FL, Lawyer Rainey of Atlanta, and Jonathan “Jimmy” Rainey Jr. (Betty) of Hazlehurst; sisters, Odessa Clark of Hazlehurst and Lear Golden of Jacksonville, FL and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, godchildren, and others who enriched her life.
Music was rendered by Reginald Kornegay and the Choir.
Active pallbearers were Damon Parker, Andre Kornegay, Jared Kornegay, Franchot Conaway, Brett Scott, and Wendell Scott.
Thornton’s Funeral Home of Hazlehurst was in charge of arrangements.
