Mr. Silas A. Dukes Jr., 83

Mr. Silas A. Dukes Jr., 83, of Uvalda, died Oct. 16 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Mr. Dukes was born Dec. 16, 1934, in Toombs County to the late Silas A. Dukes and the late Missouri Roberts Dukes.
He was retired from Hazlehurst Mills and a member of Bible Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Bethene Baxley, sisters, Dorothy Pappas and Naomi Manders, brothers, I.L. Dukes, Zeke Dukes and Oscar Dukes.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Groover Dukes of Uvalda; daughter, Mary Jean Allen of Eastman; sons, David Dukes (Pam) of Baxley and Glenn L. Dukes (Heike) of Brandon, Fla.; sister, Myrtle Larson of Lake City; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Oct. 18 at Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Manford Gilbert officiating.
Interment followed in Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Glenn Dukes, Shane Dukes, Allen Dukes, Brandon Dukes, James Hughes, Harry Hughes, Kevin Baxley and Clint Baxley.
Musical selections were rendered by Pauline Hancock, Melissa Rentz, Mike and Pat Tippett.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
