Mr. Nathaniel Ballard Jr., 71

Services for Mr. Nathaniel Ballard Jr., 71, who died July 28, were held at King Brothers Funeral Home. Officiating ministers were Chairman Kenny Edwards and Brother Samuel Jackson.
Mr. Ballard was born Sept. 25, 1946, in Wheeler County to the late Nathaniel Ballard Sr. and Helen Smith Ballard. He was well-loved as “Wookie Baby.”
He attended Wheeler County High School. He joined the Army as a teenager, serving in the Vietnam War. He was also a Navy veteran. He was employed as a bricklayer for Local #222 in Camden, N.J., until his retirement.
He later married Deborah Shaw. To this union, three children were born: Nathaniel Shaw of Camden, N.J., Asia Shaw and April Shaw of Lumber City; two other children of another union: Tanisha Wilson and Amanda O., both of New Jersey.
He is survived by brothers Willie James (Sissy) Ballard of Camden, N.J., and Winfred (Classie) Smith of Lumber City; one aunt; one uncle; and 10 grandchildren; his best friend, Sonny English; six sisters-in-law; cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Active pallbearers were friends and family.
Interment was in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lumber City.
