Mrs. Anne Johnson Gainer, 86

Mrs. Anne Johnson Gainer was born Sept. 5, 1931, in Cartersville. Well known as one of “Lula’s girls,” she was accompanied through life’s journey with a special friend whom she called Sister. As an educator, perhaps her favorite subject was the science of divinity, fudge, and pralines. Many memories were made in her kitchen. Anne was a small business owner, and she took so much pride in her ability to provide for her family and community. Her life titles included that of Mama, GranAnne, Grandma, Grandmother, Snooks…she was such a special person to many. As a member of First United Methodist Church, the title Prayer Warrior was perhaps her most pertinent.
Anne died April 24. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cary Johnson, and her second husband, Max Gainer. Her children include Pam and Larry Smith, Dave Johnson, Max and Elizabeth Gainer, George and Donna Gainer, and Grant and Susanne Gainer. Her grandchildren include Ashleigh and Logan Gillis, Alli Gainer, Riley Gainer, Marshall Gainer, Mary Gainer, Henry Gainer, Al Smith, Cary Anne and Ben Chambers, and Hallie Smith. She had one great-grandchild, Slade Gillis.
If at all possible, Heaven is a sweeter place because Anne is there. She is now in a place where calories do not count, “mini vacations” are never-ending, and special memories never fade. Her love for life has been instilled in her family and friends, and she will never be forgotten.
Services were held April 28 at First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst with the Rev. Brad Waters and the Rev. Bobby Thompson officiating. Interment followed in Palms Memorial Garden.
Active pallbearers were Jeff Crawford, Gary Arnold, Jerry Hancock, Phil Merritt, Keith Graham, Harold Whitfield, Ken McLeod, Buck Elder, Jimmie Ryles and Steve Underwood.
Musical selections were rendered by Cary Anne Chambers, Jeffery Spell and Donnie McEachin.
Wainwright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
