Mr. Gene Moeykens, 79

Mr. Gene Moeykens, 79, of Hazlehurst, passed away June 7 at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mr. Gene was born Oct. 24, 1946, in Madison, Wisc., to the late Ernest and Anne Moeykens, but had made Hazlehurst his home since 1987, when he came to work for Alco Controls. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. Gene was a member of Philadelphia Methodist Church where he took great pride in caring for the church cemetery, a labor of love that reflected his dedication to his community and respect for those who came before him. He found great joy in helping others and was never one to shy away from hard work. He loved being outdoors, whether he was driving his tractor, mowing, baling hay, or tending to his farm animals. Singing and traveling were among his favorite pastimes, bringing him both happiness and treasured memories. Above all, he dearly loved his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson Andy Yost.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years Mrs. Jackie Quarterman Moeykens of Hazlehurst; son David (Lorianne) Moeykens of Kentucky; daughters and sons-in-law Tammy (Monty) Yost of Maryland, Renee (Steven) Brown of Roswell and Tonya (Tim) Cooper of Statesboro; sister Sandy Meylor of Florida; grandchildren Bethany Yost, Phillip Yost, Gracie Watson, Patricia Moeykens, Ashley Brown, Brandon Brown, Caitlin Cooper and Aidan Cooper.
Services were held June 12 at Philadelphia Methodist Church with the Rev. Allen Hartsfield, the Rev. Steven Riddle and his son, the Rev. David Moeykens, officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
All members of Philadelphia Methodist Church served as honorary pallbearers.
Active pallbearers were Brandon Brown, Aidan Cooper, Daryl Breedlove, Thomas McDew, Richard Wheeler and Steve Underwood.
Music was rendered by Jimmie Ryles and Friends.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
