The Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets stepped onto the court last week with postseason intensity, opening the first round of the state playoffs in commanding fashion. Entering the tournament, the Lady Jackets held the top seed, while the boys secured the No. 5 spot — both teams determined to make a strong statement early.
The Lady Jackets wasted no time defending their top ranking, hosting Worth County and delivering a dominant 5-0 sweep. From the opening serve to match point, the ladies controlled every aspect of play, showcasing consistency, depth and poise across both singles and doubles lines. Their decisive victory reflected a season’s worth of preparation and set the tone for a deep playoff run.
The Yellow Jacket boys matched that intensity on their home courts against Barrow County. With sharp shot-making and disciplined net play, the boys secured a clean 5-0 victory of their own. Each line contributed to the sweep, highlighting the team’s balance and competitive edge as they continue their pursuit of a championship.
With the first round in the rearview mirror, both teams now turn their attention to the next challenge. The Lady Jackets defeated #16 seed Rabun County in the Sweet 16 Monday and the boys followed Tuesday with a win over #12 seed Thomasville.
Both teams play Friday in the Elite 8 against #8 Banks County girls and #13 Banks boys.
