Tennis teams go to Lowndes
The Yellow Jacket varsity tennis teams wrapped up their regular season this past week with a trip to Lowndes, closing things out with a pair of tightly contested matches. The Lady Jackets battled their way to a 3-2 victory, while the boys came up just short in a narrow 2-3 loss.
The Lady Jackets finish the regular season with an impressive 18-3 record and currently hold the No. 2 ranking in GHSA Class A Division I. They head into the region tournament as the No. 1 seed, ready to serve up another strong performance.
“With tough teams like Bacon, Berrien, and Brantley in our region, our girls know they’ll have to compete point by point for a region title,” said Coach Brown.
The Yellow Jacket boys close their regular season at 16-5 and are ranked No. 3 in GHSA Class A Division I. They enter the region tournament as the No. 2 seed behind rival Brantley County, looking to rally for a rematch.
“After a 1-4 loss to Brantley earlier in the season, our guys have been preparing with purpose,” Coach Brown said. “They’re ready for another shot.”
The region play-in tournament will take place Monday, April 13, in Thomasville to determine the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. Both Yellow Jacket teams have earned a bye into the championship rounds.
The girls championship match is set for Wednesday, April 15, followed by the boys championship on Thursday, April 16. Both matches will be held at McKey Park in Valdosta.
With strong seasons behind them and postseason play ahead, the Yellow Jackets are ready to keep the momentum going and make a deep run at the state title.
