Two charged in murder

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested and charged Tyzhawn Corouthers, 17, and Donaven Smith, 18, both of Hazlehurst, with murder, aggravated assault, and two counts of violation of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. The charges stem from the homicide of Terrance McCoy, 16, of Hazlehurst, on Wednesday, Aug. 5. The Hazlehurst Police Department requested the GBI to investigate.
Preliminary information indicates that, on the evening of Aug. 5, Hazlehurst Police Department officers responded to a shooting on Carey Street in Hazlehurst. When officers arrived, they discovered McCoy fatally injured with a gunshot wound.
McCoy’s body was taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy was conducted.
Corouthers and Smith were arrested by the GBI and Hazlehurst Police Department Friday and booked into the Jeff Davis County Jail. The Georgia State Patrol and Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Department also assisted in the arrests.
