Mrs. Rosa E. ‘Rose’ Coleman, 92

Mrs. Rosa E. “Rose” Coleman was born Dec. 18, 1933, to John and Sadie Harris in Alston. She was the oldest of 10 children. After completing high school, she moved to Miami, where she began a fulfilling career with JC Penney as a bookkeeper, a position she held with pride until her retirement.
Rosa married Harold E. Beard in 1952, and together they welcomed daughters, Evelyn and Marsha. Rosa later returned to Alston where in 1971 she reunited with the love of her life, Horace Lee Coleman. They married and shared a devoted union until his passing.
Upon returning home, she reconnected with her beloved Mt. Calvary Church, where she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, missionary and member of the Usher Board. Rosa’s unwavering faith guided every chapter of her life. She eventually became the matriarch and historian of the Harris Family. A true force of nature, Rosa strengthened family bonds and played a vital role in leading the Roundtree Harris McArthur Family Reunion each year. Known for her confidence, grace and strong presence, she embraced who she was wholeheartedly. She lovingly cared for those around her and was a cherished surrogate grandmother to many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her siblings John Harris, Robert Harris, Sarah Baker, James Harris and Frankie Drummer.
Survivors include her daughters Evelyn Beard and Marsha Beard, both of Huntsville, Ala.; Godchild Rodney Siplin of Miami, Fla.; brother Joseph (Gertrude) Harris; sisters Jeanette Cummings, Georgia Harris and Ida Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services were held Jan. 22 in the chapel of King Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services and burial followed in Isle of Hope Cemetery, Uvalda. King Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Services was in charge.
