After taking a week off from action, the Jeff Davis High cage teams took twin region wins over Berrien Saturday in Nashville.
The Lady Jackets trailed throughout much of the game but rallied in the 4th quarter for a come-from-behind 49-47 victory.
The Jacket boys played poorly in the 1st half and found themselves down 20-14 at halftime. But they rallied in the second half to take a 55-41 win.
The games left the Lady Jackets with a 5-12 overall record and a 2-3 region mark, while the boys are 12-5 and 4-1.
Bree Coney hit 8-of-9 free throws in the second half, going 4-for-4 in the 4th quarter and Anna Grace Alligood scored all five of her points in the final stanza as JD outscored Berrien 15-8 in the 4th quarter to pull out the victory.
Coney led all scorers with 21 points, going 13-of-15 from the charity stripe. Brylee Wyatt had 8, hitting a pair of 3-pt. shots in the second quarter to keep the Lady Jackets within striking distance. Latrice Shivers had 7, Alligood 5, and Marlee Burch and Zijanna Mincey 4 each.
Aliyah Gray topped Berrien with 17 and Alysha Hall had 13.
The Jacket boys were cold from the floor in the 1st half and were plagued by turnovers as they had only 3 points in the 1st quarter and J.J. Benjamin’s 9 2nd quarter points kept Berrien from turning the game into a rout.
The 3rd quarter was a complete turnaround as the Jackets hit four jumpers from beyond the arc, 2 by Benjamin, and J.T. Bryant hit a trio of 2-pointers and Jeff Davis emerged from the quarter with a 37-34 lead. Benjamin and Bryant continued to find the range in the 4th quarter as the Jackets pulled away for the 14-pt. victory.
Benjamin finished with 23 points, hitting three 3-pt. shots and Bryant joined him in double digits with 14. Jaiden West and Kolby Jarrell had 5 each, Mark Durden and A.J. Sampson had 3 apiece, and Ja’Ron Cochran added 2.
D.J. Bentler topped Berrien with 10.
