Mrs. Jane Lindauer Elder, 76

Mrs. Jane Lindauer Elder, 76, of Hazlehurst, passed away peacefully in
her sleep Feb. 28 at home. Celebration of life at First Methodist Church and interment at Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery followed March 4.
Jane was born March 9, 1947, in Belleville, Ill., to the late Maurice Lindauer and Ruth Shiver
Lindauer. Growing up she lived in St. Louis, Ill, Boston, Mass., attended high school in Valdosta and then the University of Georgia, where she met her future husband. Marrying Lamar (Buck) Elder July 25, 1970, in Valdosta, they lived in Kansas, Germany, and Atlanta before
settling in Hazlehurst. They established a family home, became involved members of the community, and raised their two children Jennifer and Jonathan.
Jane was an outstanding teacher of 40 years, teaching hundreds of children and positively impacting countless members of the Jeff Davis County community. She was a woman of faith and an active member of First Methodist Church in Hazlehurst. She was an excellent cook, accomplished gardener, avid reader and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She traveled the world with Buck, visiting four continents and over 25 countries – cruising the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and the Pacific – visiting many places in person which she first fell in love with through reading. Jane was compassionate and generous, always there for her wide circle of friends, and well-known to all for her kind nature and contagious laughter. Her many close-knit friendships formed a very special bond which she treasured. We will all remember Jane for her big smile and the cup of sweet tea she always held in her hand.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Jack Lindauer. Surviving family members include her husband of 53 years, Lamar (Buck) Elder, sister Rosemary Brannen and brother-in-law Bill Brannen, Valdosta; sister-in-law Ann Elder Hall; daughter Jennifer Hufford and son-in-law Peter Smith of Carmel, Ind.; son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Erin Elder of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandchildren Cole Hufford, Rosemary Elder, and Beau Elder.
Jane will be desperately missed by all those that she’s left behind. Our hearts are broken by this unexpected loss. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
