Mr. Leroy Sanders, 73

Leroy Sanders was born March 15, 1949, to the late Wilbert and Bertha Mae Sanders. He went home to be with the Lord Jan. 31.
Leroy was a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church in Hazlehurst where he served as a Deacon and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was an active participant at Bible Study at several churches in the community. Leroy was employed by the Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office as a deputy for many years, Jeff Davis Board of Education as a bus driver, and also owned a Lawn Service.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; son, Travoy Downing; brothers Robert Sanders, Johnnie Lee Sanders, Stewart Sanders, and Felton Sanders; sister Vanessa McNeely; and brothers-in-law John Chatman and Roma McNeely.
Precious memories of Leroy will forever be cherished by his daughters Rovena D. Snell (Roger), Sheryl Sanders Baker (Lindon Jemetrice), and Tracy Sanders Edwards (Victor); sons Bernard Sanders, Sidney Sanders (Michelle), Justin D. Sanders (Victoria), Eric Vann, and Leon Robertson; brother, Willie Lee Sanders (Elizabeth); sisters Bobbie Jean Sanders Moss (John), Daisy Sanders Chatman, and Monica Conaway; sister-in-law, Joyce Locke.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Homegoing services were held Feb. 7 at Southside Baptist Church with Chaplin Ashley Tyree presiding. Chaplin Tyree also provided words of comfort along with Pastor Norris Williams and the Rev. Joseph McLeod.
Law enforcement officers and members of the Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office served as pallbearers. Flower attendants were nieces and cousins.
Thornton’s Funeral Home was in charge.
