Sister Verliary Rainey, 70
Services for Sister Verliary Rainey, 70, who died Jan. 28 at East Regional Medical Center, were held at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Cypres O’Neal presiding and Elder Gregory Rainey Jr. presenting the eulogy.
Pastor Reginald Cordy gave the prayer of comfort, scripture readings were presented by Bishop Jonathan Reed, the Rev. Douglas Stanley, Prophet Ronald Handsome and Elder Phillip Grady Jr. and a resolution was read by Melody Pierce.
Sister Rainey was born Oct. 4, 1952, in Montgomery County to the late Eddie Lee Jackson Sr. and Cora Lee Jackson.
She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Uvalda. She had a strong work ethic and was employed for numerous years at Emerson Electric (ALCO) and Hazlehurst Center with Healthcare Services in the laundry area. She was a member of the Uvalda Community Choir.
She is preceded in death by James C. Jackson, Charlie Lee Jackson, Eddie Lee Jackson Jr. and Eddie James Jackson.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Gregory Rainey Sr.; children, Teru Rainey-Parker (Damon Parker), and Gregory Rainey Jr. (Lashara); grandchildren Gabrielle B. Wilson, Kaylee Rainey, Noah Parker, Aleah Parker and Madison Rainey; sisters Ora Lee McCoy of Hazlehurst, Beavor Ann McArthur (Elder Howard McArthur) of Hazlehurst, and Willie B Davis of Uvalda; brother-in-laws Willie Rainey Jr., Franklin (Star) Conaway, Bruce (Albertha) King, Dexter Rainey Sr., Elijah Rainey; sister-in-laws Yolanda (Charlie) Williams, Nancey Rainey, Brenda Rainey, Patricia (EJ) Rainey-Jackson, Alice Deal, Leanna Jackson; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers were James Marquye Jackson, Willie Handsome, Kelvin Jackson, Prophet Ronald Handsome, Damon Parker and William Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers were Uvalda Community Choir and Class of 1970.
Flower attendants were nieces, ushers, and friends.
Burial was in Hazlehurst Memorial Gardens.
