Mr. James Edwin Dykes, 87

Mr. James Edwin Dykes, 87, of Hazlehurst, died Jan. 12 at Hazlehurst Court Care.
Mr. Dykes was born April 6, 1935, in Jeff Davis County.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Colquitt Dykes and Evie Hayes Dykes, sons, James Tracey Dykes and Anthony Ray Dykes, sister, Margaret Herrington, and brothers, Jimmy Lee Dykes and Walter George Dykes.
Mr. Dykes was retired from Hazlehurst Mills, Woody Folsom, and was a member of Northgate Baptist Church.
Mr. Dykes was a hard worker all his life, quitting school at an early age to help support his family, and he continued that strategy in life. He loved life, had a big heart, and always wanted to help others. In his later years, when he resided in the nursing home, he was the Social Butterfly. He loved everybody and helped anyone he could. He will be sadly missed by all.
Survivors include his daughter, Kimberly Dykes Carter (Robert) of Hazlehurst; brothers, Tommy Edward Dykes (Lorraine) of Hazlehurst, Johnny Martin Dykes (JoAnne) of West Green and David Jerry Dykes of Temple; sisters, Lucille Mincey of Hazlehurst and Mary Alice Stone of Hazlehurst; daughter-in-law, Wanda J. Dykes of Hazlehurst; grandchildren, Anthony Craig Dykes, Brady Mikell, and Britney Setchel; great-grandchildren, Trace Dykes, Kelsey Carter, and Tommy Mikell; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Jan. 15 in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with the Rev. Jinker Horton officiating.
Interment followed in Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Hazlehurst Court Care staff and residents, and Regency Southern Care Hospice.
Active pallbearers were Richard Dykes, Arlon Dykes, Jerry Dykes, Colby Dykes, Trey Dykes, Charles Dykes, and Skylar Dykes.
Music was rendered by Sue Duckett and Terry Hesters.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
