Mr. John Michel Stewart, 66

Mr. John Michael Stewart, 66, of Hazlehurst, died Jan. 7 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Stewart was born Jan. 1, 1957, in Jeff Davis County.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Daniel Stewart, mother, Lon Dae Norman Stewart, and stepdaughter, Chanda Rena Sears.
While attending Jeff Davis High School, he was one of their great linebackers, number 66 and while attending Florida State University he played linebacker for the Seminoles, and wore number 66, under Head Coach Bobby Bowden. He enjoyed everything about the sport from playing to watching to coaching.
He was also an avid fisherman (one of the best, so Helen said) and enjoyed hunting also, and for 30 years plus he and Helen worked side by side selling Insurance.
Survivors include his wife Helen Hall Stewart of Hazlehurst; son, Bently H. Stewart of Hazlehurst; step-son, Rodney H. Sellers (his wife Christy) of Baxley; sister, Deena Stewart Creech (her husband Steve) of Florida; son-in-law, Randy Sears of Hazlehurst; grandchildren, Sierra Latham, Chelsey Carter, Jesse Sellers, Slayton Sellers, Christian Sellers, and Marklee Latham.
Services were held Jan. 10 at Oakland Baptist Church with the Rev. Royce Hulett, the Rev. David Hanks, Coach Rick Tomberlin officiating and Gail Jump giving the eulogy.
Interment followed in Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Dave Johnson, Gary Coleman, Charlie Barnes, Mrs. Joyce Jones, Michael Lay, Ricky Lytle, Jimmy Selestok, Keith Rogers, Jimmy Googe, Jerry Googe, Jeffery Googe, Jake Googe, Jeffery Crawford, Jimmie Ryles, Herschel Miles, Dave Deats, and Greg Land.
Active pallbearers were Steven Connell, Sammy Beecher, Ricky Hall, Jimmy Toler, Jimmy Jordan, and Brian Mills.
Music was rendered by Shannon New.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
