Mr. Bernard James “B.J.” Jones, 78, of Hazlehurst died Dec. 14 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Mr. Jones was born May 31, 1944, in Jeff Davis County to the late Thomas Edward and Mary Elizabeth Jones. He was a retired supervisor of Hazlehurst Mills where he dedicated his time for 43 years of service. Mr. Jones was a member of Southside Baptist Church and was a former catcher and shortstop with the Hazlehurst Cardinals. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Linda Jones, a sister, Barbara Wood and a brother, Wayne Jones.
Survivors include his daughter, Sheryl (Jimmy) Disharoon of Hazlehurst; son, Allen (Lisa) Jones of Hazlehurst; sisters, Alice (Maxwell) Wilcox, Fillis Branch, and Debbie (Larry) Quinn all of Hazlehurst; and brother, Hershal (Jessie) Jones of Douglas; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were be held at Southside Baptist Church Dec. 17 with the Rev. Thomas Colter officiating.
Interment was in Hazlehurst City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Spencer Disharoon, Keagin Disharoon, Wade Jones, Mitch Jones, Gary Quinn, and Paul Wood.
Honorary pallbearers were T. M. and JoAnn Bridges and Keith and Shirley Wilcox.
Swain Funeral Home was in charge.
