Mrs. Nellie Mae Clemons Conaway, 83

Mrs. Nellie Mae Clemons Conaway, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, who died Sept. 25, was born May 26, 1939, to the late Buster and Easter Clemons.
Nellie was hard worker. She labored in the cotton and tobacco fields. She was employed at the Hazlehurst Slip Factory and retired from Hazlehurst Mills. She enjoyed picking up cans and dog tongue/deer tongue. Some of her favorite pastimes were gardening, growing cane, and making syrup. Nellie loved the Lord with all her heart and talked about His goodness all the time. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Macedonia Baptist Church for several years. She dutifully served as the Church Mother.
Nellie married Yarp Conaway Sr. Sept. 6, 1960, and they gad nine children, Cathy, Tommy, Alvin, Teresa, Yarp Jr., Janice, Marvin, Mitchell, and Romanski.
She was preceded in death by children, Cathy Newkirk, Tommy Newkirk Jr., Alvin Conaway, and Yarp Conaway,Jr.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Yarp Conaway Sr; daughters Teresa Byrd (Kenneth) and Janice Phillips (James); sons Mitchell Conaway (Felicia), Marvin Conaway, and Romanski Conaway (Teshia); grandson she raised as her own, Kenric Newkirk (Erica); sisters Bertha Hill and Rena Mae Frazier; brother, Lenard Clemons; daughters-in-law Linda Newkirk and Carrie Conaway; sisters-in-law Bessie Conaway and Josephine Walker; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services were held Oct. 1 at Macedonia Baptist Church, Graham. Interment was in the church cemetery.
