Mrs. Mary Etta Pearson, 81
Help us celebrate the life of Mary Etta Pearson, lover of all things nature and science, music and art, and self proclaimed amateur ornithologist. Mary Etta Pearson, 81, of Hazlehurst, passed away Oct. 2.
Mary Etta was born May 28, 1941, in St. Augustine, Fla., to Ruby Rhodes McSwain Doby and Haywood McSwain who both preceded her in death. Mary Etta worked in the medical profession for 50 years beginning at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, and retiring from Jeff Davis Hospital in Hazlehurst. She was preceded in death by her first husband Dulaney Walters and her second husband James “Jim” Pearson. Additionally, Mary Etta is joining her daughter Audrey Lynn Walters, son Robert “Rob” Walters and siblings Ray McSwain, Betty Andreau, and Sammie McKinzie in a spiritual homecoming.
She is survived by her sister Virginia Alligood and brother Jessie McSwain, both of St. Augustine, daughters Ruthy Hatton (Tony P. Hatton) of Hazlehurst and Christine Walters (Robert Walton) of St. Augustine, grandchildren Andy Hatton of Hazlehurst, Jessi Hatton of Phoenix, Ariz., and Audrey Connell of Jacksonville, Fla., seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews including Tammy McKinzie, and her dear friend Shirley Nabors.
She was known for her infectious chuckle, her love of all birds, gardening and her green thumb, shoes, purses, and all things shiny and twinkley. She also made a mean sausage perlo and amazing pear honey! Services will be held t a later date.
