Ms. Karen Lavette Lawhorn, 61

On Sept. 19, Ms. Karen Lavette Lawhorn received her wings.
Born Nov. 7, 1960, in Hazlehurst, and lived her entire life leaving for a brief period to live in Woodbridge, Va. She suffered a stroke in 2007 which left her partially paralyzed on her right side. She was admitted to Lumber City nursing home in 2016 and later transferred to Hazlehurst Court.
She was the oldest daughter of Jewell L. Young and Lee Willis Wright. She leaves to cherish her memory of her only daughter Felicia Lawhorn, granddaughter Teriah Jewell Lawhorn, older brothers Kenneth Lawhorn and Tony Young (Linda), sister Paula Y. Wiltshire (Joseph), and sister/cousin Demaris Lawhorn. Karen also had siblings from her father, Wendy Wanda Polly and Patrick Wright, and Auntie Josie who has been there through it all. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Karen was an A student in high school. She worked for Alco Controls for many years until she moved to Virginia. She was small in size but very feisty and full of fire.
She was always determined to do things her way, end of discussion. She was driven and a hard worker, always cleaning and giving orders around the house. She loved to cook and was one of the best at it. We didn’t always agree but she was our Big Little Sister, as we all were taller than her.
Sis, there’s no more pain and suffering here in this earthly realm you’ve now gained your wings. You’re now safely with our mom and Grams and we don’t have to worry anymore because our Father needed you more. So, this is not goodbye, it’s we’ll see you later.
When your beautiful heart stop beating, my heart just broke in two. Knowing that here on earth, there will never be another you. We love you! Sleep in peace!
A graveside service was held Sept. 24 at Northview Cemetery, Hazlehurst.
King Brothers Funeral Home in Hazlehurst was in charge. www.kingbrothersfh.com
