Ms. Marjorie Mullis Smith, 91
Ms. Marjorie Mullis Smith, 91, of Hazlehurst, died Sept. 8 at her residence.
Ms. Smith was born Nov. 17, 1930, in Rentz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Wendell Mullis and Amie Register Mullis, husband, Odis Carroll Smith, daughter, Marlene Smith Strickland, and granddaughter, Pam (ChaCha) Brown.
She was a faithful member of Hazlehurst Church of God until her advancing age and declining health prohibited her from attending regularly. She loved her church family.
During her life, she had many jobs, (Hazlehurst Mfg. for 19 years, Big House Restaurant for eight years, and owner and operator of The Sewing Nook for 30 years), which enabled her to form relationships that became lifetime friends. She had a smile for everyone she would meet.
She retired at age 80 but continued working at home. She enjoyed working with her flowers and continued cutting grass at the age of 90. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and spending time with her family. She had a gentle spirit, humble and compassionate, and will be missed by her family.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Carlene and Ed Gauler of Hazlehurst; sons and daughters-in-law; Buddy Odis and Brenda Smith of Hazlehurst and Jack Carroll and Kathy Smith of Hazlehurst; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 12 in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with the Rev. Shon McEachin, the Rev. Jeffery Spell, and the Rev. Terry Wayne Smith officiating.
Interment followed in Hazlehurst City Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were the Senior Sunday School Class of Hazlehurst Church of God, Regency Southern Hospice, and all friends and family in attendance.
Active pallbearers were the Rev. Shon McEachin, Donnie Shumans, son-in-law, Ed Gauler, and Jimmie Ryles.
Piano selections were rendered by the Rev. Jeffery Spell, before, during visitation, and after service.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
