Mr. John Edward Rogers Jr., 84
Mr. John Edward Rogers Jr., 84, of Hazlehurst, died July 20 in Florida Memorial Health Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mr. Rogers was born Jan. 22, 1938, in Bacon County.
He is preceded in death by his parents John Edward Rogers Sr. and Hazel Grainger Rogers. He was retired from Lumber City Egg Marketers and a member of Lumber City Baptist Church.
He was a gentle giant of a man, always kind, and had a smile for everyone. He enjoyed CB radios, he definitely was a Braves, Georgia Bulldogs and Falcons fan, all other sports and fishing. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them.
But most of all, his heart and his love were dedicated to his loving wife for 61 plus years.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Gantz Rogers of Hazlehurst; sons and daughters-in-law, John E. Rogers III (Amy) of Hazlehurst and James A. Rogers (Anita) of Douglas; brother, Lee Roy Rogers (Roslyn) of Arkansas; grandchildren, Taylor Brooke Waters, Erin Disharoon, Adrianne Davis, Madison Davis and Dalton Rogers; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 25 at Lumber City Baptist Church with the Rev. Ryan Clements, the Rev. Ashley Tyree and the Rev. Dustin Hutto officiating. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery with military honors and with Dustin Hutto, Kevin Rewis, Gary Williams and John Rogers singing.
Honorary pallbearers were Gary Williams, Jeff Hall, Roy Kight, Tim Brown, Kody Waters, Mat Cardell and Spencer Disharoon.
Active pallbearers were Charles Wasdin, Timmy Lee, Kevin Rewis, Shane McCullar, Terry Brown and Bobby Brown.
Music was rendered off of a CD that was recorded by Fire from the Heart, featuring songs Mr. Rogers loved.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
