Mrs. Mary A. Thomas, 67
Services for Mrs. Mary A. Thomas, 67, of Douglas, who died March 22, were held April 2 at The House of God in Douglas.
Elder Gloria Moore Wright officiated with State Elder Joyce Lewis giving the eulogy. Burial was in Douglas City Cemetery.
Deaconess Thomas, daughter of the late Catherine Crawford and the late Alex Horne of McRae. After the passing of her mother she was taken in by her aunt and uncle, Willie and Dorothy Knox, where they raised her in Hazlehurst. She graduated from Jeff Davis High School and attended college. She was raised in the House of God Church serving on the deacon board, as an ordained deaconess and held many other positions as well. She was employed by Jeff Davis County School System as a devoted bus driver and later retired from her bus driving duties through Coffee County School System. Preceding her in death were her parents, son-in-law, Andrew Dumas and a sister, Ann Floyd.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Elder Jerry Thomas; four daughters, Dorothy Dumas, Jessica (KaShon) Burnett, Marie (Maurice) Wilcox, and Caroline Thomas; brothers, Donald Fred (Sophia) Crawford, Lorenzo (Sharon) Crawford, Greg (Vanessa) Crawford, Willie (Shelia) Knox; sisters, Doris (Jimmy) Josey, Katina (Jimmy) McCrae; uncles, Billy Fred (Rose) Crawford, Charlie (Diana) Crawford, David Crawford; grandchildren, KaimRhon Bonaventure, Jerriseon Bonaventure, Desiree’ Dumas, JaHiem Williams, Johnny Wilcox, Jahnias Wilcox, Zipporiah Wilcox, Adonia Dumas, Alaina Thomas; two great-grands and a host of relatives and friends
Active pallbearers were KaimRhom Bonaventure, JaHeim Williams, Jahnias Wilcox, Jerriseon Bonaventure, Johnny Wilcox, and Adonis Dumas.
Honorary pallbearers were Greg Crawford, Willie E. Knox, and Donald Fred Crawford.
Providing music was the choir and a special tribute by The Thomas Sisters.
Harrell’s Funeral Home of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
