Ms. Carlene Music Smith, 81

Ms. Carlene Music Smith, 81, of Hazlehurst, died Sept. 11 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Ms. Smith was born Aug. 9, 1940, in Ware County. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Lloyd Music and Lydia Taylor Music, husband, Tommy Eldon Smith, brothers, William Lloyd Music and Billy Music, sisters, Pauline Smith and Verlene Miller.
Mrs. Smith was a devoted mother, Granny and Big Granny. She was her family’s fearless leader in the face of adversity and extended a hand of friendship and kindness to everyone she met. She resided most of her life in the Altamaha Community and was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. Her church family meant the world to her, and she spoke of them often. Mrs. Smith was employed as a lunch lady with the Jeff Davis School System for many years, and she enjoyed serving her community. She was well known for her dumplings and cinnamon rolls. She loved God and country, her family, and her friends with her whole heart. She was greatly loved and will be surely missed.
Survivors include, sons, Jerome Smith (Robin) of Alabama and Wayne Smith (Lera) of Hazlehurst; sister-in-law, Linda Music of Hazlehurst; grandchildren, Jennifer Gooden (Larry), Amber Nelms (Jeremy), Aaron Smith (Sierra), Travis Smith, and Kaelan Smith; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and beloved lifelong friend, Joann Harrell of Hazlehurst.
Services were held Sept. 15 at Oakland Baptist Church with the Rev. Royce Hulett and the Rev. Joey Andrews officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Her Adult Sunday School Class, family and friends served as honorary pallbearers.
Active pallbearers were Aaron Smith, Matt Walsh, Mel Music, Jeff Smith, David Bryant and Andrew Varnadore.
Music was rendered by the congregation, the Rev. Dustin Hutto and the Rev. Billy Gardner.
