Mr. Euene Merritt, 74

Mr. Eugene Merritt, 74, of Hazlehurst, died Sept. 5 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Mr. Merritt was born Sept. 16, 1946, in Jeff Davis County. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Mack Merritt and Mary Magalene Smith Merritt, sister, Margaret Dennis and brother, Roger Merritt. He loved working in his garden and going fishing every chance he got.
He was retired from Soundlock and was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. He will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Livingston Merritt of Hazlehurst; daughter, Crystal Merritt Howard of Hazlehurst; brothers, James (Grady) Merritt (Sandra) of Florida and Russell Merritt of Douglas; sisters, Mary Ann Merritt Gibbs of Uvalda and Betty Merritt Creamer (Roger) of Uvalda; grandchildren, J.J. Smith, Allen Howard and Brock Howard; great-grandchildren, Braxton Tate Smith and Britton Tret Smith; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. in Palms Memorial Garden with the Rev. Keith Yawn and Jimmie Ryles officiating.
Music was rendered by Chris Merritt and Jimmie Ryles.
