XC teams host Peach State Preview Invitational

High school girls leave the starting line

The Jeff Davis Cross Country programs opened their season by hosting the Peach State Preview Invitational at the Uvalda Landing and the Heritage Center at Towns Bluff Park. The meet brought in 11 high school teams and nine middle school teams from across southeast Georgia. Teams represented from the 1A classification up to the 6A classification in GHSA.
Visiting South Effingham High School swept the high school races. Sophomore Tyler Phillips (17:10.48) from South Effingham won the boys race while junior Kate Merritt (21:20.47) of Coffee won the girls race. Senior boy Briley Reyes (6th) and junior girl Alex Uribe (4th) led the way for the Yellow Jacket squads.
The high school teams will be back in action this week as they travel to Hart County for the Bulldog Early Invitation.
The Jeff Davis Middle School teams swept the middle school division. The boys middle school 2-mile race was paced by 7th grader Pearson O’Neal (12:56.91) of Vidalia Heritage Academy while 8th grader Patrica Backlund (15:06.90) of South Effingham won the girls race. 8th graders Konnor Munsayac (13:21.82 and 2nd place) and Ellie Kate Marchant (15:25.10 and 2nd place) led the way for the junior jackets teams. The middle school teams will have this week off as they prepare for the Cecil Field Summer Classic in Jacksonville Aug. 27.
