Dr. John Milton Moody, 72
Dr. John Milton Moody died Aug. 4 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla., following several years of declining health.
Milton, born Jan. 25, 1949, in Hazlehurst, was the son of John William (J.W.) Moody and Georgia Lou McEachern. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Jill Stivers Moody, both parents, and a brother, Robert Earl Moody.
Milton is survived by daughter, Julie Campbell Moody of Savannah; sister, Judith (Judy) Carol Moody of Sautee Nacoochee, Ga.; nephews Rob Moody, Nathan Moody, Al Smith, and Gabe Smith; godson, Lee Gillis; and other close family members and friends.
Milton was a 1967 honor graduate of Jeff Davis High School and a 1973 graduate of the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy. He married Jill Stivers Moody Sept. 4, 1976. Milton owned and operated Telfair Drug Store in McRae from 1977 until 1984 when he chose to attend medical school at the American University of the Caribbean in Montserrat, graduating in 1987. From 1987 to 1991, Milton completed clinical residencies in Johnstown, Penn., a year in London, England, as well as Boston, Mass., and Columbus, Ga.
Dr. Moody was licensed in the state of Georgia to practice medicine Oct. 3, 1991, and had an active license until he passed away. Dr. Moody had practices in McRae, Statesboro, and Lyons.
A celebration of life memorial is planned for Sept. 5, 2021 at 3 p.m. with Lowe’s Funeral Home in McRae-Helena in charge.
