Mr. Lonzie McClendon, 84

Mr. Lonzie McClendon, 84, of Hazlehurst, died Aug. 3 at East Georgia Medical Center in Statesboro.
Mr. McClendon was born March 31, 1937, in Coffee County.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elley McClendon and Lucy Barnes McClendon, and brothers, D.J. McClendon and Jimmy McClendon.
Mr. Lonzie had a very strong work ethic, enjoyed every minute driving a truck for Amoco Fabrics, until he retired in 1998. In his spare time he loved spending time and cooking for all of his family, (the more the merrier), growing a big garden. He loved his church the Restoration Church (Elbethel) and church family.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Gloria Jean Waters McClendon; daughter, Debra Ann McClendon (Steve Carter) of Hazlehurst; sons, Tommy Lonzie McClendon (Elise) of Hazlehurst, Kenneth Darrell McClendon (Carla) of Hazlehurst and Keith Harrell McClendon (Tracy) of Hazlehurst; sister, Willene Stinson (Carl) of Atlanta; grandchildren Chris (Samantha) McClendon, Justin (Taylor) Carter, Emily McClendon and Josh (Amori) McClendon; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Aug. 6 at Restoration Church with the Rev. Mike Gilbert and Brother Carl Taylor officiating. Interment followed in Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
Honor pallbearers were Restoration Church Family, Ronnie and Barbara Gruber, Jack and MaryAnn Floyd and Harriett Clark.
Active pallbearers were Brad Mason, Matthew McClendon, Bryan McClendon, Darrell McClendon, Gary Cothren and Brian Cothren.
Music was rendered by Andy and Keisha Wallace.
