Mr. Horace ‘Snooky’ Thornton Jr., 68
Mr. Horace “Snooky” Thornton Jr., 68, passed away July 26 at his residence, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.
Mr. Thornton was born July 17, 1953 in Appling County. He is preceded in death by his parents, Horace Thornton Sr., Mary Edith Parlor Thornton and sister, Terry Hughes.
He has been a meat cutter for many years, for eight years he was employed with Rentz Groceries and then for 40 years with Googes’, probably would still be there, but his health would not allow it. He also loved watching wrestling and was an avid Georgia Bulldog Fan, Go Dawgs! He was a member of Hazlehurst Church of God and will sadly be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Gail Hughes Thornton of Hazlehurst; daughter, Jody (Stanley) Wilson of Hazlehurst; son, Joseph “Man” Thornton; sisters, Brenda (Randy) Roberson of Baxley, Mary Sharpe of Hazlehurst and Sherry (Jessie) Newell of Hazlehurst; grandchildren, Cherish (John) McCall, Jonah (Hope) Wilson, Brody Thornton, Stephanie (Andy) Powell, Tonja (Jason) Hulett, Kathy Wilson, Stanley (Pam) Wilson Jr.; great-grandchildren, Bentley McCall, Bentley Thornton, Macy Jim, Faith Stokesberry, Kimberly Brady, Layla Hulett, Thaniel Hulett, and Drayden Balcom; and a host of sister- and brother-in-laws; nieces and nephews.
Services were held July 29 at Hazlehurst Church of God with the Rev. John Nunes and the Rev. Nathan Smith officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were (Googes’) Mrs. Mary Googe, Lamar Googe, David Googe, Ray Googe, (Three Rivers EMS) John Osburn, Melissa Smith, Courtney Nobilio and Davita Dialysis of Baxley.
Active pallbearers were Jonah Wilson, Kaleb Carter, Thomas Hattaway, Tyler Hughes, Clay Crosby and Corey Googe.
Interment followed in Liberty Community Church Cemetery.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
