Mr. Reuben M. White, 86, passed away July 23 at Houston Medical Center. Services were held July 26 at Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins with a private interment at Coody-Berryhill Cemetery in Cochran.
Reuben was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Cochran to the late C.W. White and Bessie Berryhill White. Reuben grew up in Hazelhurst. After graduating from Auburn University, he worked for the Georgia Dept. of Transportation as an engineer. During his time in Atlanta he met Sara Alice Blalock. They were married in 1974. The couple had many friends at First Baptist Atlanta and Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church. Reuben was very sociable and enjoyed hosting family and friends at their home. Their favorite hobby was traveling or planning their next trip.
Reuben enjoyed flowers and visited many gardens. Once retired, their trips involved more international destinations. After relocating to Perry in 2015, they enjoyed many wonderful times with their precious new friends at Central Baptist Church.
Reuben was one of nine children. He had a generous heart and strong faith. His family says his constant phones calls were “the glue” that kept his large family connected. He had a special place in his heart for children, particularly those less fortunate.
Reuben enjoyed documentaries, especially WWII, travel documentaries and movies. He liked many kinds of music, particularly gospel hymns and enjoyed musicals.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Carrie Varnadoe, brother, Sam White, half-brothers Clifford, Ralph and Cecile White, and half-sisters Lucille Gainey and Mozell Davis.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Sara White, sister Mary McIntyre of Sun City Center, Fla., a host of great nieces, nephews, extended family and a special cousin-in-law Joy (William) Hurst.
