Ms. Harris was born Dec. 27, 1936, in McRae. She was the 8th child of 13 born to the late Tom and Mary Harris. Baby Ruth received her education in Georgia and lived in several cities in Florida like Pahokee, Fort Pierce and chose Miami as her lifelong home. She moved back to Lumber City in 2005 and worked as a private duty care professional, until she was unable to work. A hard worker, she worked as a security guard, housekeeper, childcare and home healthcare worker.
Baby Ruth was a sweet and special lady. Her name described her perfectly. She loved her family, was always surrounded by friends and family, spoke her mind, was always willing to lend a helping hand, opened her home to anyone in need and opened her heart to everyone she met. Her smile and laughter brought joy to everyone she encountered. She will truly be missed.
Baby Ruth accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and encouraged everyone to pray without ceasing. One of her favorite passages was Psalm 23.
Survivors include brother, Edgar Lee Harris of Miami, Fla.; sisters Mildred Hester, Miami, Fla., Grace Hardy and Tommie Lee Batten both of Lumber City; as a sister, Mildred Hester; as a niece, Maryet Moxie-Stinson; a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews and countless cousins and friends.
