Mr. Duane Kirby, 48

Mr. Duane Kirby, 48, of Hazlehurst passed away July 11 at his residence, ending his battle with cancer.
Mr. Kirby was born March 13, 1973, in Jeff Davis County.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clayton Gene Kirby, mother, Audrey Jean Drake Floyd and grandmother, Lillian Ange.
After graduating Jeff Davis High School, he entered into his lifelong career in law enforcement with the Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office as a drug investigator. This was his life, during his 30 years of service. He was recognized by the United States Department of Justice for his outstanding contributions in the field of Drug Law Enforcement. He attended Lumber City Baptist Church and Lumber City Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Dashia McLoon Kirby of Hazlehurst; daughter, Amberlyn Kirby-Porterfield (Jake) of Hazlehurst; son, Conner William Kirby of Cleveland, Ga.; step-sons, Cameron Fletcher of Hazlehurst and Colt Carver (Anna) of Broxton; brother, Richie Charles Floyd (Bubba) of Alamo; grandchildren, Tanleigh Porterfield, Rena Porterfield, Mason Carver, Addison Carver and Lane Carver; aunts, Patsy (Tommy) Herrmann of Savannah and Lynn Haymons of Lumber City; cousins, Kelly Strickland of Snellville and Melisse Moore of Lumber City; nephews, Logan Floyd, J.T and Kaleb Vaughn; sister-in-law, Marti (Jamie) Vaughn of Douglas; special friend, Stormy Jowers Merritt.
Services were held July 14 at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Ashley Tyree and Rev. the David Deen officiating.
Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery in Lumber City with a law enforcement tribute.
Honorary pallbearers were all eaw enforcement.
Active pallbearers were the Georgia State Patrol.
