Mary Lowery Passes
Longtime Hazlehurst downtown business owner Mary Carolyn Lowery died March 7 after an extend illness. She was 80.
Mrs. Lowery was a co-owner along with her husband, the late A.J. Lowery Jr., of the Western Auto Store on Tallahassee Street until it closed. She then owned and operated Gifts Galore across Tallahassee Street from the former Western Auto.
A native of Patterson, she lived most of her life in Jeff Davis County. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Clarence Creech Sr. and Lois McCall Creech, and brother, James Clarence Creech Jr. She was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed decorating, traveling, shopping, playing cards, helping others, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters, Terri (Chris) Rush and Jackie Campbell (Jody Bass) all of Hazlehurst; grandchildren: Christen Campbell, Ross Rush, Ryan Rush, Allie Rush, Demi Rush, Jacie Campbell, and Samantha Bass; brothers Buck (Linda) Creech, Buddy (Gail) Creech; sister-in-law, Jean Creech; sisters Gladys (Earl) Rowland, Evelyn Gunter, Deanie Ellis, Shirley (Eddie) O’Neal; and her caregiver, Nancy Jackson.
Graveside services were held March 9 at Hazlehurst City Cemetery.
