Two arrested for burglary
The Hazlehurst Police Department has arrested two suspects in last month’s burglaries at Sellers Seed and Feed on South Tallahassee Street and at Mac’s Milk convenience store on Coffee Street.
The Hazlehurst Police Department has arrested two suspects in the burglaries — Terrence J. Harrison, 35, of Plum Street in Hazlehurst; and a 14-year-old juvenile of Montgomery County.
According to a Hazlehurst Police Department incident report, an officer was dispatched at 5:20 a.m. on June 23 to Sellers Feed and Seed in reference to a reported burglary. The officer found the front glass door had been shattered and a black firearm was lying on the ground in front of the business. Shortly, another officer and several Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene.
Security camera footage showed two male subjects breaking the front glass door, entering the business and exiting through the same door before leaving the premises.
Hazlehurst Police Chief James Mock said Harrison is facing three charges of burglary and three charges of theft by taking while the juvenile faces two charges of each.
Chief Mock explained that only Harrison is charged in the Mac’s Milk burglary while both are charged with two counts in the break-in at Sellers Feed and Seed.
Chief Mock said the two broke into Sellers and the burglary alarm did not work properly. So, later, the two are believed to have returned to the store and, the second time, the alarm worked properly and alerted officials of the break-in. As a result, the pair were charged twice.
Chief Mock said approximately 40 firearms were taken in the Sellers burglary, some of which have been recovered.
The juvenile is being held in a juvenile detention facility and Harrison is being held under bond at the Jeff Davis County Detention Center.
