Mr. Chapman ‘Johnny’ Atkinson, 86
Mr. Chapman “Johnny” Atkinson, 86, of Hazlehurst, died Feb. 17 at his residence.
Mr. Atkinson was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Pensacola, Fla., and has made his home in Hazlehurst for the past 41 years, coming from Chicago, Ill. While living in Chicago, he worked for Bally Manufacturing as a foreman for over 20 years making slot machines. He retired from Fales Furniture in Hazlehurst. He was a member of Satilla Free Will Baptist Church and Hazlehurst Masonic Lodge #283. He is preceded in death by his parents Arnold Atkinson and Ila Mae White, wife Christine Thompson Atkinson, sons, Jimmy Atkinson, Thomas Atkinson and William Atkinson, and grandson, Jimmy Atkinson Jr.
Survivors include his son Raymond J. Atkinson (Amie) of Hazlehurst; daughter, Karen E. Dean (Stanley) of Rossville; brother, Michael Atkinson (Frances) of Wewahitchka, Fla.; friend and caregiver, Gabby Beltran; grandchildren, Kathrine Espinosa, Christopher Dean, Cora Mae Atkinson, Nathan Atkinson, Hannah Atkinson, Riley Atkinson and William Marcum; great-grandchildren, Kayla S. Espinosa, Wessin Lee Dean, Weslee Leon Dean and Payton Marcum; great-great-grandkids, Rena, River and Rayne.
Graveside services were held Feb. 20 in Satilla Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating.
Active pallbearers were Stanley Dean, Nathan Atkinson, Riley Atkinson, Colby Davis, Christopher Dean and David Espinosa.
Members of Hazlehurst Masonic Lodge #283 were honorary pallbearers.
